Fiverr's CEO: AI is absorbing "high-volume, low-value, transactional tasks" while demand grows for "longer, higher-value projects."
AI now builds the small stuff
- More than 60% of new Supabase databases are started by AI coding tools (June 2026).
- Google's DORA 2026 report on AI ROI finds returns follow a J-curve: costs first, gains later — and only for teams with solid review, testing and delivery. AI amplifies good engineering; it doesn't replace it.
So the $50 landing page and the "fix my CSS" gig are going to AI. Systems with business rules, integrations and production responsibility are not.

Per PSEB, Pakistan's IT and IT-enabled exports reached $4.6B in FY2025-26, with freelancers earning $1.1B (~24%). The talent pool is large and growing — pick developers who sell outcomes and systems, not hours.
2027 outlook (my predictions)
- Marketplace buyer counts keep falling (another 10–20% on Fiverr) as AI tools improve — but spend per client keeps rising. Fewer, larger projects.
- "AI code cleanup and hardening" becomes a standard service. More AI-built apps reach production; many need security, testing and scaling fixes.
- AI-related work passes $500M/year on Upwork if the +22% trend holds.
- Direct hiring grows — businesses find developers through portfolios and case studies, not bidding wars.
